 “Deficient” compartilha com as mesmas acepções de “deficiente” em Português, exceto na expressão “deficiente físico” que em Inglês se traduz por “handicapped” ou “disabled” e quando se quer evidenciar uma preocupação ética com discriminação, por “challenged” ou “physically challenged” / “mentally challenged”.

They are trying to identify mentally challenged children in this community to give them help.= Eles estão tentando identificar as crianças com problemas mentais nesta comunidade para lhes dar ajuda.
