argument / reasoning

argument / argue  -  (discussão, briga verbal / discutir)
(Port.) argumento -  (reasoning)
They had an ugly argument before.  = Eles tiveram uma discussão feia antes
They were friends, but even so they were always arguing about something.= Eles eram amigos, mas mesmo assim sempre estavam brigando  por causa de alguma coisa.
O meu argumento foi franco. Como eu disse, eu era de 40 a 50% contra ir para guerra. =  My reasoning was straightforward: As I said, I was 40 – 50  against going to war.
O significado de “raciocínio”,”ponderação” para “argument”,  embora menos comum, também existe em Inglês e poderá ser reconhecido pelo contexto:
The problem is that this argument ignores Cuban reality.( Newsweek, Mar 7, 2009)=  O problema é que este argumento (ou raciocínio) ignora a realidade cubana
