Embora nas duas línguas as duas palavras “legend” e “lenda” tenham o mesmo significado de ´história”, “conto´ etc., em Inglês a palavra “legend” não se usa para “legenda”,
que, ao contrário, se traduz por “subtitle”
ou “caption” no caso de filmes * e
por “inscription” em outros casos,
como por exemplo:

minha avó havia uma estátua de metal com uma
legenda na base: “escultor

vindo da rua, ou que há outras vozes no fundo e etc. Usa-se a palavra
“subtitle”quando temos uma simples transcrição do diálogo ou narração , como um
instrumento ou para quem não conhece bem a língua
ou não quer perder nenhuma palavra.
